The Battle of Gonzales, fought on October 2, 1835, was the first military engagement of the Texas Revolution. Triggered by the Mexican Army's attempt to retrieve a small defense cannon, the defiant Texian settlers raised a legendary "Come and Take It" flag and successfully drove the Mexican troops back to San Antonio
