Il Ferro Rosso “Where steelworkers became legends.” Il Ferro Rosso began as a tiny family tavern opened by former railway mechanic Matteo Krüger Rossi after the Great Industrial Expansion. Built beside old freight lines and machine yards, the restaurant became famous for serving massive hot meals to exhausted laborers at all hours of the night. Workers, soldiers, smugglers, and officials all sat under the same roof, making it one of the few places where class and rank temporarily disappeared. The name, meaning “The Red Iron,” came from the glowing steel shipments that once passed by the building every evening, lighting the streets red through the smoke and fog. Today, despite age and decay, the restaurant remains open—its lights glowing through rain and smoke like a relic of another era.
