Somewhere between falling asleep and waking up, there is a hall with a light in the middle of it. Step into that light and it will put you somewhere else. A corridor of pale glass that curves away and never quite ends. A train full of wildflowers, drifting above the clouds with nowhere to be. Green hills that repeat past the horizon. Tiled rooms standing in still water, room after room after room. Take a request from the light, go and see what it wants you to see, then bring it home. Gather wisps, hold a view until it settles, work out what the lamps are trying to tell you. Spend what you earn on a lantern for the dark places, or a compass that knows where the light is. There is nothing chasing you. Nothing here wants anything from you.
