Home to an arsenal of artillery pieces and often warships, Dead Neck Island serves as the home of most things involving Cotuit Anchorage. The island is defended and maintained by the Cotuit Anchorage Garrison, headquartered on the island. Cotuit Anchorage Garrison has been credited for the sinking of hundreds of merchant ships passing through bodies of water such as the Vineyard and Nantucket Sound to reach the prosperous harbor of New York.
