Ämari Air Base, Estonia

NATO troops have amassed close to the border with Russia as part of the largest build-up of NATO troops neighbouring Moscow's sphere of influence since the Cold War. Ämari Air Base is a military NATO air-base in Estonia. It's purpose is to defend the Batlic-States (airspace). The Baltic Air Policing mission is a NATO mission executed by the Quick Reaction Alert Force (QRAF); in order to guard the airspace over the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The Allied Rapid Reaction Corps is deployed at Harjuma too for training purposes. A seperate part of the NATO air-base is built for the Estonian Defence Force (Eesti Kaitsevägi). The Estonian Force will have a leading function at this base. Ämari Air Base (ICAO: EEEI) is a military airbase in Harjumaa, Estonia located 7 km south of Lake Klooga and 20 nautical miles southwest of Tallinn. Since April 2014, Ämari Air Base is a Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) AFB for Baltic Air Policing patrols.
