The legends have been confirmed. There was a massive SAR base underground, and this location is just the one of hundreds of entrances all across Daxorus. After the AAF's discovery of the base, the news shockwaved through the base, causing the SAR to deploy all across the planet all at once, and hit everything, eventually taking over the planet. This is one of the few areas contested, along with some safe zones.
