Marine Corps Recruiting Depot _____________ FOUNDED: 1861 LOCATION: Parris Island, South Carolina PART OF: USMC CONTROLLED BY: United States Marine Corps -ABOUT- ________ MCRD was established in 1861 and Marines were finally sent to Parris Island on June 26,1981. The recruiting depot had a separate command of training women and men in boot camp. Drill instructors will be very strict with trainees and this forces the trainees to be cut off from the civilian world. They must do a physical and combat fitness test. They must also have minimum curriculum standards, like doing 50 jumping jacks in 1 minute.
