This game is a fictional version of the hypothetical battle of the Fulda Gap, in the year 1981. After unrest and the disbandment of the Warsaw Pact, NATO launched a campaign in Eastern Europe to gain a foothold. The USSR is trying to push back and retake its territory, allied with the local forces of the "Deutsches Volksrepublic" (Alternate PDR), they are ordered to take out the NATO threat
