Ribnitz-Dammgarten was a town that was located west of Stralsund, when Schill's Corps in 1809 advanced on Stralsund, they met the Mecklenburg Battalions near the town of Dammgarten and a skirmish ensued. The Mecklenburgers were forced to retreat as the last of the ammunition ran out, which allowed Schill's corps to advance on Stralsund.
