Soon after Egg Hunt 2014, Roblox's old terrain textures were replaced with a more detailed, darker fantasy art style. This change applied to every place, including the Flat Terrain template. One year later, Roblox introduced developers to smooth terrain, which completely replaced voxel terrain with a new system that allowed rounded hills, winding sand hills, and bumpy mountains. Places using the legacy voxel terrain would be supported until the start of 2017, where all Roblox places were converted to use smooth terrain.
