Wedgeford Abbey Light Railway Preservation Society

Description : The Wedgeford Abbey Light Railway was a small light narrow gauge railway that had began construction all the way back in 1896. The railway was built to take tourists from the small town of Wedgeford to the nearby abbey ruins some 16 miles away through the boggy marshland that was known by locals as "The Broads". The railway also served some small communities & small local farms along it's route. However following the great depression in 1929, Tourists didn't have as much money as they use to & as such passenger trains had to cease running in 1930. Goods traffic however lasted another five years before all that too went up in smoke. Luckly though people who had worked on the railway back during it's glory years decided that this little railway shouldn't just be left alone & all forgotten. So on 26th-May-1963 the Wedgeford Abbey Light Railway Preservation Society was formed & very very slowly they have been restoring it ever since.
