The Triassic Period (about 252–201 million years ago) was the first period of the Mesozoic Era, following the Permian-Triassic mass extinction. Life gradually recovered, with the rise of the first dinosaurs, early mammals, and marine reptiles. Pangaea, the supercontinent, shaped the Earth's landscape, resulting in dry, desert-like interiors and seasonal coastal climates. Plant life, including conifers and cycads, flourished. The period ended with another extinction event, setting the stage for the age of dinosaurs in the Jurassic Period.
