After the collapse of the Concordant in 887 with the death of Emperor Mimaki Hashteshi, the East was no longer an empire that could prosper by the blade alone. The remnants of the previous Shogunate had long been pushed into the countryside, as a pre-established alliance formed by the Wyneshi, Kanreshi, Ashi, and Kikoshi clans secured the capital.
