Tønderlejren

Camp Tønder In 1920, plans were drafted to make a temporary barracks in Tønder, as soldiers garrisoned were currently utilizing the nearby WW1-era German zepplin base. The temporary barracks consisted of all woden buildings except for the horse stable, which was made from a limestone brick. The barracks were situated just north of the city of Tønder. However temporary it was planned to be and despite being in constant disrepair, the barracks ended up seeing use for 14 years until 1936 when a new barracks was finally constructed, which saw use until 2002. The only building that remains from the temporary barracks today is the limestone horse stable, which was converted to housing after WW2.
