The Battle of Iwo Jima was a major World War II conflict between the U.S. Marine Corps and the Imperial Japanese Army, fought on the island of Iwo Jima from February 19 to March 16, 1945. It was a brutal and costly victory for the United States, resulting in a significant number of casualties on both sides. The battle is remembered for its fierce fighting and the iconic images of Marines raising the flag on Mount Suribachi.
