A once-abandoned arctic observatory gains a new life as a joint Kazakh-Canadian venture in logistics, arctic research and arctic politics. The adjoined Mountain Training Centre is operated jointly by the Kazakh Ministry of National Defence on behalf of the Armed Forces of the Republic and the Canadian Army. The Observatory is operated by the Polar Sentinels Service, a bi-national force of Kazakhs and Canadians. Kazpost and the KAZHYDROMET serve as the two Kazakh representatives on the Governors of the Polar Sentinels Service.
