The Basilica (Basilica San Pietro) St. Peter's Basilica, located in Vatican City, is one of the most renowned churches in the world. Its construction began in 1506 under Pope Julius II and was completed in 1626 under Pope Urban VIII. The basilica was built on the site where St. Peter, one of Jesus' apostles, is believed to have been buried The church was designed by some of the most famous architects of the Renaissance, including Donato Bramante, Michelangelo (who designed the iconic dome), and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The basilica serves as a major pilgrimage site and the center of the Catholic Church. It is also known for its stunning art, including Michelangelo's Pietà and Bernini's grandiose Piazza San Pietro in front of the church
