Sandstorms blinded and battered tributes, while towering dunes and open plains offered little protection. Jagged cliffs and winding caves created treacherous traps, and a tropical lake at the center tempted with water surrounded by toxic plants. Cacti dominated the landscape, some sustaining, others fatally poisonous.
