The Castle of Hoym, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, was built in the early 1600s by Christian I of Anhalt as a stone manor surrounded by a moat. In 1752, his grandson Victor Amadeus of Anhalt-Bernburg removed its defensive walls and rebuilt it in a Baroque style for himself and his wife Elisabeth of the Palatinate-Zweibrücken. Later, Victor I of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym inherited the castle and renovated it. His daughter, Victoria Charlotte, made the residence known for her elegant salon, one of the most admired in Prussia.
