Description (written by the developer; not a statement by this register)
The Meuse-Argonne Offensive was the largest and deadliest American-led operation of World War I. Fought in northeastern France, it was a major part of the Allied effort to break the German defensive lines and push toward final victory. Over 1.2 million American soldiers took part, supported by French forces, making it the biggest military engagement in U.S. history. The offensive targeted the rugged Argonne Forest and the Meuse River region—terrain that heavily favored German defenders. Despite fierce resistance, difficult ground, and high casualties, American and French troops steadily advanced. Their pressure contributed significantly to the collapse of German morale and the eventual signing of the Armistice on November 11, 1918.
