Fort William, Calcutta | V.2 Alpha

Calcutta, although existing previously under the Mughal Empire, was established as a "factory" and the company's capital city by one Job Charnock under the English East India Company in 1690 on the banks of the Hooghley River. Fort William, named after King William III of England, was built as a stronghold within the city between 1700 and 1706. The fort remained under Company rule, though seized in 1756 by the Nawab of Bengal's troops, though retaken by the company in 1757. Interested in joining the Honourable East India Company's forces?
