The Welsh Guards are one of the five regiments of the British Army’s Household Division, proudly representing Wales. Founded on 26 February 1915 by King George V, the regiment was created during World War I to honor and represent the Welsh people within the British military. Known for their discipline, loyalty, and courage, the Welsh Guards combine ceremonial excellence with real operational capability, making them a respected and versatile regiment both at home and abroad. The regiment’s primary role is as light infantry, meaning soldiers are trained to fight on foot using rifles, machine guns, mortars, and other infantry weapons. Unlike armored units, the Welsh Guards do not operate tanks, but they are highly skilled in teamwork, fieldcraft, and tactical maneuvers. Their operational duties have taken them to overseas deployments, including Afghanistan and Iraq, where they supported NATO missions and British Army operations.
