The Invasion of France was a major World War II campaign that lasted about one month in 1940. The Germans broke through Allied defenses by advancing through the Ardennes, bypassing the strongest fortifications. The French attempted to hold the line, but were eventually overwhelmed, leading to the evacuation of Allied forces at Dunkirk.
