The State of Woodrow was established in 1865, following the Civil War, succeeding the State of Vermont after its economic and political decline. It was named in honor of Theodore Woodrow, a distinguished Union military leader and advocate during the conflict. The capital city, Theodore Heights, is known for its historic architecture and respected institutions such as the Woodrow State University. In the postwar period, Woodrow quickly industrialized and became known for its progressive reforms and commitment to civil rights, continuing the legacy of Theodore Woodrow.
