The arena took place in a cave within Mammoth Cave National Park, located in a state once known as Kentucky, and was divided into four total sectors. Tributes rose into an open cave in pitch-black darkness, and when the countdown ended, the lights suddenly flicked on, disorienting them and triggering the bloodbath. Throughout the Games, tributes spread across the sectors: Sector One contained cult activity resembling missing person cases, Sector Two consisted of an old oil and coal mine that exploded and collapsed during the Games, Sector Three housed the stockpile and was later sealed off for the finale, and Sector Four was made up entirely of deep cave systems. Throughout the competition, a mutt taunted the tributes, mocking them and causing vivid visual and auditory delusions, while a supply drop was lowered into the arena on Day Three and several other events unfolded.
