To anyone driving past the main gate on Forest Road 174, it looks like a typical, underfunded government outpost: a few drab, modular offices, a gravel motor pool, and a single wind-speed tower. The official line is that the site is "minimally staffed" to avoid disturbing the sensitive local ecosystem. Despite the boring "dirt and trees" cover story, the Annex has become a focal point for local dread and online conspiracy forums. The "Botanical Conservatory" label is increasingly mocked by the few hikers and hunters brave enough to skirt the perimeter, who report a reality that is far louder and more violent than soil research.
