𝐀 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐑𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐀 𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐔𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐀 𝟫𝓉𝒽 𝒞𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒𝓈 𝒞𝒶𝓋𝒶𝓁𝓇𝓎 Depite French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's trade embargo on Britain via the Continental System, the Portuguese hold up their end of the 500 year old alliance and continue to trade with the English. Napoleon declares war in 1807, and the Spanish are occupied as well. The Portuguese refusal to comply with French rule would be seen as a significant turning point of the Napoleonic Wars, as Napoleon had to keep much of his Grande Armée bogged down on the Iberian Peninsula, diverting attention from his Russian Campaign.
