𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗢𝗧𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘 "The strength of the Empire rests not only in the capital, but in the loyalty of its provinces." The armies of the Eyalets (provinces) constituted the provincial military establishment of the Ottoman Empire, providing a diverse array of forces that complemented the Sultan's standing army. Under the authority of provincial governors (beylerbeys) and local administrators, the eyalets raised timariot sipahi cavalry, provincial infantry, artillery detachments, fortress garrisons, irregular auxiliaries, and logistical personnel. Sustained through the timar system and provincial revenues, these forces formed the backbone of Ottoman military campaigns for centuries, assembling from every corner of the Empire whenever the Sultan called for war. Each eyalet maintained its own military organization according to the needs and resources of the province, ensuring that forces could be raised swiftly.
