What was the Military Assistance, Command - Vietnam - Studies & Observations Group? The Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies & Observations Group (MACSOG, also known as SOG or "Old Blue") was a top secret, joint covert unconventional warfare unit which conducted Covert Actions throughout the Vietnam War. Established on 24th Jxznuary, 1964, by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, this unit would eventually consist of US Green Berets, US SEALs, US FORECON, CIA Agents, US Air Force and Indigenous Liaison.
