Description

The German Empire is the political regime of the Germany the first nation-state in German history, from 1871 to 1918. It is a constitutional confederation resulting from the Confederation of North Germany and bringing together under the "little-German solution" twenty-two monarchies and three republics as well as a "land of Empire", Alsace-Lorraine, under the authority of a German emperor, also king of Prussia. It was founded on January 18, 1871 by the proclamation as Emperor of William I of Prussia in the Hall of Mirrors of the Palace of Versailles after the French defeat during the French-German War of 1870.
