𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐔𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒 ꜱʏʀᴀᴄᴜꜱᴇ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ ₪ The Sileraioi were the trusted companions and guards of Dionysius I of Syracuse. Originally formed as a protective force, they became a loyal corps of veteran warriors devoted to the Tyrant. Their discipline and service made them one of the most respected military bodies in Syracuse. During the turmoil of 405 BC, Dionysius used the loyalty of the Sileraioi to rise above Syracuse's rival factions and overturn the existing government. Establishing himself as Tyrant, he reshaped the city and made Ortygia the center of his power.
