Description
Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı (MİT), Türkiye'nin C'umhurbaşkanlığı'na bağlı resmî istihbarat örgütü. 1965 yılında Millî Emniyet Hizmeti yerine kurulan, Türkiye'nin bölünmez bütünlüğüne, anayasal düze nine, varlığına, bağımsızlığına, güvenliğine ve millî gücünü meydana getiren bütün unsurlarına karşı içten ve dıştan gelecek mevcut ve muhtemel tehtidler hakkında bilgi toplamak, önlem almak ve gerekli durumlarda ilgili makamları uyarmakla görevli bir teşkilattır. Devletin millî güvenlik politikasının hazırlanmasıyla ilgili her konuda istihbaratın tek elde toplanabilmesi amacıyla, 22 Temmuz 1965 tarihinde TBMM tarafından 644 sayılı kanun kabul edildi ve bu kanun ile kuruluşun adı Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı (MİT) olarak değiştirildi. Kanun ile MİT'in bir Müsteşar tarafından yönetilmesi ve Müsteşarın, kanun ile belirlenen görevlerin yerine getirilmesinde sadece Başbakana karşı sorumlu olması öngörüldü. MİT, yaklaşık 19 yıl süre ile faaliyetlerini yürüttü.
