Description
In 1809, Duke Friedrich quartered his troop in Bohemia; they were recognized as the " black crowd "; From 1809 to 1820, this formed the new basis for the Brunswick military. In 1809 the Duke went to Austria to help Francis II. Once the Duke heard about peace among Austria and France, he fled Austria inquiring about fighting for the British; the Ducal Corps fought in Spain and Belgium. Following Napoleon's defeat in the Battle of Waterloo, the new Duchy of Brunswick was founded. The troops retired to Brunswick, more than 7,000 men returned without their Duke. The Duke of Brunswick was amongst the fallen in the battle of Quatre Brass on June 16, 1815. The patriotic monument in the form of an obelisk on Brunswick's Lion Wall commemorates the fallen of the Napoleonic Wars. This group is a historically accurate depiction of the Duchy of Brunswick from 1815 to 1820.
