Description
Office of Strategic Services Special Maritime Unit (OSS SMU) "First Frogmen" The OSS SMU also known as the "First Frogmen" were members of the OSS primarily from the Marine Corps Special Operations Marine Raider Battalions. The Special Maritime Unit (SMU) was originally established as a division of the Special Operations Branch of the OSS but was granted Branch status on June 10, 1942. They specialized in underwater warfare, amphibious, maritime, maritime sabotage, and beach reconnaissance.
