Description

𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 – 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 “The Horse Marines” The Marine Mounted Detachment, informally called the Horse Marines, was organized to provide mounted couriers and escorts for naval stations and coastal posts where distances exceeded practical movement on foot. Rather than a permanent coastal patrol force, the detachment consisted of marines provided horses to carry dispatches, guide parties ashore, and move quickly between anchorages and settlements. Operating along the bays and interior roads near the coast, they extended naval communication and allowed landing parties to assemble beyond the immediate shoreline. Their duties included escorting personnel, carrying orders, and supporting shore operations where mobility was required. The Horse Marines reflected the adaptable nature of the Republic’s naval service. Detachment Cap: 10
