Description
✦ GREATER ASSAM FEDERATION ✦ “বৃহত্তৰ অসম ফেডাৰেচন” The Greater Assam Federation emerged after British rule when Assamese nationalists rejected partition and sought to unite the Northeast of South Asia. They resisted the transfer of Sylhet to East Pakistan and later seized Chittagong, bringing the wider region under one federation but this would soon bring conflicts against India and Pakistan. The government promoted Assamese nationalism while maintaining a secular state and incorporating the federation’s diverse peoples and cultures, but still has tribal separatists to combat. Year: 1947–1970 Language: Assamese, English Capital: Guwahati Government/Ideology: Federal Nationalism State Religion: None The federation defended and expanded its territory against external and internal threats, creating a unified Greater Assam.
