Following the collapse of the United States in the 21st century, the last de facto American president fled to Puerto Rico, reining in power after declaring a permanent state of emergency, transforming the nation into an authoritarian, revanchist rump state. The term "Borikenia" was coined only after the formation of N.E.P.T.A. (National Emergency Provisional Pact of America), a rival claimant to the succession of the United States located on the mainland.
