Description
The Northwest Company was a fur-trading company that was the only serious competitor to the HB's Company. It was formed, in the late 1700's, out of several existing small organizations in order to expand west into the areas not being serviced by the HBC. It was known for running trading posts out in the field, doing business closer to where the trappers were. Eventually, it ran into several skirmishes with the HBC, some of them armed. Because of this, the two companies were forced to merge. After 40 years, the NWC was no more.
