The 8° Reggimento Fanteria di Linea “Principe Luciano” was formed in 1811 in the Kingdom of Naples under Joachim Murat, created from Napolitan battalions returning from Spain and elements of the 2° Reggimento Leggero. It consisted of two battalions of line infantry, equipped with muskets, bayonets, and sabres, and wore white jackets with pink trim. Commanded by Colonel Giuseppe De Luca and garrisoned in Naples, its motto was “Onore e fedeltà.” The regiment was disbanded in 1814, with its personnel incorporated into the 9° Reggimento Fanteria di Linea.
