Description
KREUZSTADT After the fall of the State of the Teutonic Order, the remaining loyalist Teutons fled to the Imperial County of Reuss, hoping to create a new state. However, in 1563, John Frederick II of Saxony attempted to displace the Teutons; erupting into the Teutonic Revolt. Under Lothar Eckhardt, the Teutonic Order emerged victoriously, and thus the State of Kreuzstadt was formed. In 1566, Kreuzstadt officially joined the HRE, being granted as a landgraviate. In 1778, Alaric Eckhardt completely reformed the state and military. The margraviate would adopt a new flag, coat of arms, and begin modernizing its army to rival its neighbors. His son, Conrad Eckhardt, would step in and put Kreuzstadt on the European state, breaking the state’s neutrality in 1792. Withal, formally proclaiming the Kingdom of Kreuzstadt in 1804.
