It was established under the name of the Army of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on May 12, 1992, by a decision of the National Assembly of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It existed from 1992 to 2006, after which it became part of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
