Description
The Avantgarde, the original infantry of the Black Band, now returned from English service and assembled in a pair of new light infantry companies, plus two new Gelernte Hunter companies. The Avantgarde fought in the Peninsular War, the War of the Fifth Coalition, and the Waterloo Campaign. They participated in the Battle of Waterloo, the Battle of Halberstadt, the Battle of Ölper, and the Battle of Quatre Brass. Formed in 1809 and disbanded in 1820 due to high maintenance costs.
