Description
𝐓𝐎𝐏𝐂𝐔 𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐆𝐈 Topçu Ocağı is the one to which the soldiers from the footmen section of the Kapıkulu Ocağı in the Ottoman Empire are in charge of making and using cannons. In the reign of Sultan Murad I, immediately after the creation of the Yeniçeri, the first artillery furnace was established with the soldiers taken from the Acemi Ocağı. After the conquest of Istanbul, artillery barracks and a fixed cannon construction armory was built in the place called Tophane, outside the Galata city wall. Over time, armories were set up in places such as Belgrade, Budin, Temashvar, Shkodra, Gulamber, and Provishte and made cannons were being produced.
