Description
Formed in 1861 to fight the southern oppressor's under the Federal Army. The Regiment was founded in New York by all Irishmen and staffed with Irish officers. They fought to preserve the Union. Many of these Irishmen Veterans from the Young Ireland Rebellion and the Papal Army of 1860.After most leaving Ireland due to the Oppression of the Crown they moved to the United States to find a better life. During the outbreak of the Civil war around 190 Thousand Irishmen joined the Federals with only around 20-60 thousand joining the Confederate States Climb the ranks of the Union army to command and lead regiments.
