"Walls of Sparta" 𝚲 The Sons of Herakles The Sons of Herakles are not gods, nor sons of gods. They are men—hardened by war, tempered by discipline, and sworn to Sparta’s will. Drawn from the ranks of the most seasoned hoplitai, the Sons form an elite lochos tasked with high-risk campaigns and frontier defense. Unlike the youthful conscripts of the agoge, these warriors are chosen only after proving themselves in live combat, often more than once. Their name is both honor and burden: Herakles is not invoked lightly in Sparta. To bear it means to carry the weight of expectation—unyielding strength, endurance without complaint, and obedience to the rhetra, the law that governs all Lacedaemonians.
