Description
Founded in 1729 along the banks of the Hudson River, Jefferson City would grow into one of the region’s most important centers for trade, manufacturing, and transportation. Over the centuries, the city expanded into a thriving hub within New York, supported by its strong industrial base and active waterfront. However, like many historic cities, economic struggles during the 1970s began a period of decline that left lasting impacts on several districts. Today, Jefferson City features a lively downtown core along the river, filled with commerce, public services, and historic infrastructure, while other neighborhoods still reflect the challenges of past economic hardship.
