Description
The 42nd U.S. Infantry Regiment was authorized by an act of Congress & formed in 1813 as part of the expansion of the United States Army during the War of 1812. It was raised by men primarily from New York & Pennsylvania. Garrisoned at Fort Mifflin & Province Island, the regiment would see action during the defense of Fort Peter in Georgia. It would serve until 1815 when Congress ultimately integrated it into a different unit.
