𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 – 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 “The Sea Soldiers” The 1st Marine Company was organized in early 1837 to provide guards and landing parties for the vessels and stations of the Texian Navy. Rather than a large independent formation, the company represented one of the detachments maintained for shipboard security and coastal service at ports and naval stores. Trained for both sea and shore duty, its men performed watch, boarding, and landing operations when required, serving wherever sailors alone could not operate effectively ashore. The company reflects the small but specialized role of marine detachments within the naval service of the Republic. Company Cap: 10
