Founded by Dynamic_Scot on May 23rd, 2021 ♔▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬♚▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬♔ HMS Hood was the largest and most powerful ship in the world from her commissioning in 1920 to her eventual sinking in 1941. HMS Hood served as the flagship of the Royal Navy throughout her career. Hood would be sent alongside Prince of Wales to intercept the German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen in 1941 which were attempting to make a run for the Atlantic convoys. She would sight Bismarck and Prinz Eugen in early morning and open fire on Prinz Eugen at 05:52 at a distance of 12 1/2 miles, followed by Prince of Wales at 05:53. At around 06:00 and at a distance of 9 miles while in a 20 degree turn to Port to bring X and Y turret into fire, Hood was struck by a 15 inch shell from Bismarck, which detonated her aft magazine. The ‘Mighty Hood’, pride of the Royal Navy and during 20 years the largest warship in the world, split in two and sank in three minutes. ♔▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬♚▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬♔
