𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐘 ───────────────────────────────────────────────── The citizen population of Athens was divided between ten recognized tribes. After the reforms of Cleisthenes in 508 BC, the tribes became the governors of many deme or demos (subdivisions) of the Polis, and enrollment in these demos became a requirement for citizenship. Levies for Athen's army would be raised from these deme, providing a Strategos, a Taxiarch, and a fighting force of able-bodied Hoplites to defend the Polis' borders. The Strategos, or general, is the elected Chief Magistrate (demarchos) of a tribe, and has ultimate control over it's members as given to them by the Ekklesia. The Taxiarch is the internally-selected representative of a tribe, chosen exclusively among it's citizens to command the deme's Hoplites. In order to join a tribe, you must join Athens' communication server, then submit a request to one of this group's affiliates.
